Survey finds US grantmakers' use of IT is basic

A new survey of foundations and corporate giving programs reveals that grantmakers use basic electronic communications technology such as the phone, fax and personal computer, but are not yet making full use of computer and Internet capabilities that might benefit them.

Artists Gilbert and George are raising funds for Aids charity Crusaid by donating a quarter of the proceeds of their £11.99 screensaver.

Software for the smaller charity

A fundraising program specifically designed for small to medium-sized charities has just been launched.

Fundbase is available in international English and is distributed as shareware. It can then be registered for £30.

Child sponsorship intranet proposed

International development agency Actionaid is planning to create a "cyber-sponsorship information bank" to help keep the donors who sponsor individual children in the Third World informed of developments.

FUNDimensions is fundraising database software for US non-profits that is available for either the Apple Macintosh or Windows/NT.

Second chance for donating software to non-profits

Sheri Orloff has set up a Web site called "Second Chance Software" to help direct software to appropriate nonprofit organisations.

If you have software you would like to donate to someone who will genuinely appreciate it, simply visit the site and fill out the short form. Ms Orloff developed the site after helping a nonprofit search for suitable freeware software.

E-mail lists for software users

A fundraising database company has introduced an e-mail discussion list for clients.

Professional Support Software offer an e-mail discussion list for their Online Users Group, available at no charge to all users of their software FundRaiser Basic. They also offer Online Users Groups for users of their products FundRaiser Jr and Professional who are also paid-up PSSupport subscribers.
