At a recent CSR presentation by a UK bank, I was struck by the highly commercial attitude this company is taking to its community involvement.

Over 12000 grant awards and almost £85m awarded since 1985 to charities working in Scotland and overseas. The reason for their extraordinary decision not to accept any new funding applications?

Simple. Lloyds Banking Group - now partly owned and funded by the bank of you and me - wants to sweep away everything that makes the Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland unique. Oh, and haven't actually got round to giving them any money this year.

If the number of current job adverts for corporate fundraisers is any indicator, many charities are increasingly looking to larger donations to help meet income shortfalls caused by the recession.  But, according to an article in Third Sector magazine, charities just aren’t sophisticated enough in terms of their approach.

Given the number of redundancies being made across both not for profit and commercial sectors, I am still pleasantly surprised to see a good number of fundraising and commutations roles being advertised in the trade press each week.
